The majority of people use cannabis plants for recreational and medicinal undertakings. Cannabinoids compounds affect the brain in various ways (Caporuscio, 2020). Notably, CBD, a nonpsychoactive compound obtained from cannabis, plays a crucial role in such challenges as sleep alongside anxiety discussed in the section below.
Research indicates that people that use CBD experience an increase in the amount of sleep and subsequent reduction of insomnia (Weingus, 2020). CBD is an essential remedy for lack of sleep and insomnia. Furthermore, an investigation shows that a significant amount of CBD dosage support sleep (Caporuscio, 2020). For example, cortisol levels are peak in the morning but higher among people that experience insomnia. The higher the cortisol levels, the higher the chances of nighttime awakening. However, the use of CBD significantly offsets the cortisol levels for users. Such action is viewed as the CBD being a sedative. MacMillen (2018) claims that when she used a sample CBD in the evening, she experienced a subtle calming effect and comfortable sleep. The author’s friends also take CBD to get better sleep. Most people cannot sleep since they are anxious, or their brains cannot quiet down. However, the use of CBD makes them sleep better due to better anxiety.
A study of 72 adults indicates improved sleep scores, denoting 67% (48 adults) (Bartlett, 2020). Using CBD led to a calming effect of a person’s central nervous system in the initial month. Nevertheless, 56% of the adults show that they experienced improved sleep after continuous use. Additionally, a CBD dose ranging from 25 mg to 175 mg indicates that 25 mg dose was the most effective in handling anxiety. Besides, troubled sleep required higher doses (Caporuscio, 2020). Initial studies also suggest that CBD support sleep. This claim is right in the short term. However, the effects may not get sustained for too long. Ideally, CBD works well in handling sleep issues since it works in two perspectives. First, it has anti-anxiety properties, and secondly, it can stimulate relaxation (Weingus, 2020). These techniques become evident when melatonin signals the body that evening arrived, and it is time to sleep. The process is possible since it raises the naturally occurring level of melatonin within the body. Initially, a person could experience sleepiness, but the anxiety caused insomnia. Thus, using the CBD was critical to handling the issue of lack of adequate sleep or insomnia.
In conclusion, CBD is an extract of the cannabis plant whose function is to tackle sleep and anxiety challenges. Research indicates that people that use CBD experience and improved amount of sleep and a significant reduction in insomnia. Notably, cortisol levels get controlled. As such, a person experiences better sleep. It is worthy to note that CBD act as a sedative to handle the uneven sleep patterns. The survey undertaken on some adults indicates that CBD works on the central nervous system. This move allows adults to reduce their anxiety and relax. Such a move will enable them to have a better chance of good sleep.
